Communicating with Legislators
Being a constituent, you have a responsibility to participate in the legislative process. Legislators need to know your position on issues that you deem critical. Listed below are tips that will be helpful in communicating with members of the Orangeburg County Legislative Delegation:
- Establish a relationship with your representatives before you need to contact them.
- Be brief and concise.
- Write in your own words.
- Be respectful and never threaten.
- Faxes are especially effective because faxes are easily sorted by issue and position.

eVoice
Through a partnership with the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to offer a special program for the small business owner. With economic development efforts being focused on small business, the state chamber and Orangeburg County Chamber are joining together to build a strong voice. Engaging the businesses with ten or less employees will bring new ideas to the table and help grow our state.
In an effort to educate and promote more involvement from the very small business owner, ther South Carolina Chamber is promoting an electronic information program to allow participation in grassroots lobbying, polling on special issues related to small business public policy, and the Chamber’s legislative communications. Throughout the legislative session you will receive the Legislative Update every week. The Update monitors the progress of the legislators each week on legislation that impacts the business community. Small business owners will see firthand how the Chamber’s work on legislative initiatives affects their business; and how a unified voice from the business community CAN and WILL make a difference for South Carolina.
There is no additional cost and the only requirements are that you: 1) belong to the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce, 2) have ten or fewer employees and 3) have an email address. If your business meets all three of the above criteria and is interested in enrolling in eVoice, please print and fill out the form at this link and mail or fax it to the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce. If you have questions, please contact David Coleman by telephone (534.6821) at the Chamber.
