ORANGEBURG FINE ARTS CENTER PRESENTS
THE BLACK PERSPECTIVE: The Vision & Voice

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The Orangeburg Fine Arts Center will present THE BLACK PERSPECTIVE: The Vision & Voice, a photography exhibition featuring the work of 15 Black photographers from across the United States.

The exhibition will be on view in the Lusty Gallery from October 8 through December 1, 2026. An opening reception will be held Thursday, October 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with brief remarks on the exhibition from renowned photographer Cecil Williams.

Admission is free to the public and wheelchair accessible.

THE BLACK PERSPECTIVE: The Vision & Voice brings together a diverse range of photographic perspectives that explore lived experience, cultural legacy, identity, community, history, and the social realities of being African American in a country continuing to reckon with its history of race and identity. At the heart of the exhibition is photography's power to reveal, document, interpret, and preserve the Black experience in America.

The exhibition is sponsored by PhotoSC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization based in Columbia, South Carolina, and was juried by Arnika Dawkins, founder of Arnika Dawkins Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dawkins describes the exhibition as an exploration of photography that moves beyond simply documenting what is seen:

"This body of photographic work is rooted in a pursuit of feeling; imagery that reaches beyond the surface to engage…"

The selected works reflect the broad social landscape of African American life across the nation. They capture moments of everyday life while also engaging with questions of history, race, identity, resilience, belonging, and social change.
